About OPPIES

OPPIES first started when a wife with a lifelong passion for thrifting was in the car with her “I can do that” husband - who just happens to run his own IT business, Ecliptek - and their two small children. She mentioned how good it would be if there was an app for Op shopping that showed all the Op Shops near you, based on your exact location. One thing led to another, months of building and plenty of feedback from fellow secondhand lovers went by, and here we are today.

We’re a proud husband-and-wife duo passionate about sustainable shopping, supporting charities, and making thrifting easier and more fun for everyone across New Zealand and Australia.

My Own Op Shopping Journey

Growing up in a small town where new clothes were a birthday treat, opshopping was how our family got what we needed - and how I developed my own style as a teenager. There was nothing better than getting compliments on a find, especially when it cost just a few dollars!


Now as a mum, we continue the cycle: donating outgrown clothes and discovering new favourites. It’s pure joy seeing my kids’ excitement when they find a toy, book, or trinket for a price that makes it easy to say yes. Shopping secondhand supports great causes and gives items new life - an easy yes all around.


Op Shops have always been more than just stores. They’re fundraisers for causes, lifelines for communities, and champions of sustainability. But they haven’t always had the tools to reach new shoppers or easily share what’s happening in their stores - until now.


OPPIES gives shoppers a way to explore, support, and stay connected. It also gives shops an easy, free mobile platform to promote sales, update their info, and hear directly from the people who love them most. And with more younger generations embracing slow fashion and secondhand style, OPPIES helps carry the Op Shop tradition forward, making it more accessible, fun, and relevant than ever.

OPPIES is New Zealand and Australia’s dedicated app for discovering and supporting local Op Shops and secondhand stores. It connects OpShoppers with charity-run Op Shops and independent secondhand stores - making it easier to find nearby treasures, leave reviews, save favourites, and get notified about sales and events. New in OPPIES 2.0: live open/closed status, the Oppies Community Feed for sharing photos, and clearer donation/volunteer info for Op Shops. It’s free for OpShoppers and charity Op Shops. Independent secondhand stores can join with a free 7-day trial, then $9/month or $95/year.
When you open the app, the Home screen automatically shows OpShops and Secondhand Stores within a 40km radius of your location. Tap the globe icon for Map view (shows ~15km). Zoom in if you see the “Zoom in to see OpShops” message. Use the Search tab for shops further away by suburb, city, or name.
Anyone who loves Op shopping! OpShoppers, charity Op Shops (free), and independent secondhand stores (with subscription option after trial).
Yes! Tap a shop profile, scroll to Reviews, and add your star rating + honest comment. We encourage kind, constructive feedback. Only the OPPIES team can edit or delete reviews.

If you’ve favourited a shop or you’re nearby, you’ll get a push notification when they post a sale. View all notifications via the bell icon at the top of the Home screen.
On any shop profile, tap “Add to Favourites” (heart or star icon). You can also add a private note about why it’s a favourite (e.g. “regular fill-a-bag sales”, “great parking”, “fast stock turnover”, etc.). Your favourites are easy to access: tap your profile icon in the top right corner of the Home screen, then select Favourite Shops.
Try updating the app, checking your connection, and tapping again. It should open the relevant shop profile and sale details.
Use the search bar on the Home screen for nearby results, or tap “Search All Op Shops” at the bottom for a full search by location, city, charity, or shop name.
Most are already listed. Charity/not-for-profit Op Shops can join free by downloading the app, registering with a work email, and claiming their listing. Independent secondhand stores can sign up with a free 7-day trial then $9/month or $95/year.

We’re committed to keeping OPPIES completely free for OpShoppers and charity/not-for-profit Op Shops so they can focus on the great community and charity work they do. As the app grows (especially with the new Community Feed and more photos), running it has real costs. My husband and I have been personally funding everything so far. To keep the platform sustainable long-term without charging the charity side, we welcome independent secondhand stores on a simple paid plan ($9/month or $95/year after a free 7-day trial). This helps cover costs while giving independent stores powerful tools to reach more customers. We clearly label store types so shoppers always know what they’re visiting.
